In July, my family, the Dorsey's, marked an incredible milestone: 75 years in Putnam County. Nearly 115 of us gathered at the Sedgewood Club in Kent, the very same place where my grandfather, Brigadier General Dr. Jack Dorsey, hosted the first family picnic back in 1949.

What started as a simple get-together all those years ago has grown into a cherished tradition that spans generations. This year, we were proud to have five generations represented, along with a brand-new sixth-generation cousin. We wore name tags showing where we fit into the family tree, and spent the day sharing stories, laughter, and memories that connect us to our roots.

Family, history, and community are at the heart of what makes Putnam County such a special place. Our annual gathering is more than just a picnic—it is a living reminder of the ties that hold us together. Traditions like this inspire me to preserve and strengthen those connections throughout our community. As your representative for Mahopac and District 9, I will bring that same commitment to listening, connecting, and making sure our county works for every resident.

I’m grateful to Eric Gross and The Putnam County Courier for publishing a story on our reunion and helping share this milestone with our neighbors. If you’d like to read the full article, you can find it here.

Or, download a PDF on the page here and scroll to press. Here’s to another 75 years of family, friendship, and community in Putnam County!
